This installation was shown in the Taikang Space exhibition “51 square meters - 8# XinYunpeng”.

In a project space, Xin Yunpeng used a bearing to hang a “ceiling” title from side to side using join balls. The height of the ceiling at the center of the room was the same as of the height of the artist.

此作品为泰康空间“51 平方——8# 辛云鹏”的个展项 目,

作者在项目空间内,用万向轴承悬挂起一个新的“天花 板”,天花板如同悬浮在空中,唯其中心被钢索牢牢抓 住,如同“跷跷板”一样——受外力可缓慢倾斜摆动。

“Handsome” is a video made by Xin Yunpeng during a residency program in Hong Kong. In the video we see the artist riding a taxi with a steering wheel that he brought from Beijing, using it as if he was the driver on the left side of the car. Everything else seems normal.

在香港驻留期间,作者使用从北京带去的方向盘道具,在一辆的士的 副驾位置“表演”开车,并以摄影机构图,裁剪真实的士司机的位置, 只拍摄他在“正常的驾车”。

Two cowboy statues stand in a gun duel. At first glance, the piece echoes a classic American Western movie. Nonetheless, the two sculptures are actually slowly rotating in different directions. As the sculptures slowly turn, the intense sense of adversary disappears and is replaced by more complicated alternatives.

两个牛仔决斗的雕像,它们被相对地放置在合理的位置——以构成二元冲突的统 一。它们下方的底座却是缓慢转动的,雕像以难以识别的转速渐渐挣脱了原始的 对立的关系——变化为孤立的或是共同的存在。然后,随时间的流逝,双方回到 戏剧性的原点,再被这周而复始地程序变得复杂难解。

The video shows Xin Yun-peng recording himself kicking snow down a tree. The two-channel video is displayed on two screens installed side by side. At first glance, it seems like the two screens broadcast the same scene at the same time. However, the artist made sure that the two videos are not synchronized which create a dislocation in the narrative between the two screens. The video seems normal, but at the moment when the snow falls the videos will be shown to not match.

此作品是一段踢落树上积雪的录像,辛云鹏以1:1.77画 幅将同一时间发生的动作拼接在两个屏幕内播放,而不去同步双屏间的时间。因顺应播放媒介的弊病,这种误差在循环中被不断的扩大,上演出具有异质性的时间的体验。

The film begins with a single gunshot and the actor falling to the ground. The artist through a still camera records a 20 minutes faked death. As the director of the film, the artist did not give his actor any instruction to stop, the actor on the ground eventually fell asleep while waiting.


录像中的表演由一声枪响——演员应声倒地开 始,辛云鹏通过固定镜头记录下长达二十多分 钟的“死亡”,却没有给演员任何停止的口 令——以致于躺在地上的演员在等待中睡着了

For 144m2 Xin references his Islamic Hui roots and layers a large Islamic style carpet for Salah onto
a room of the gallery. As the carpet is too big for the space it completely engulfs the room, thus the carpet not only lies on the floor but also runs across the walls. Here Xin again plays with questions
of space and borders. The carpet’s design also hints at another interpretation, patterned across the carpet are a series of doors that traditionally dictate the position of prayer towards Mecca and the Kaaba. However, on entering this room the viewer becomes disorientated, in turn losing the sense of spatiality that the carpet usually enables. This spatial confusion directs the viewer to Xin’s ruminations on the propensity of spaces and borders, both physical and non-physical, to dictate our behavior and foster interpersonal difference.

作者将大于房间的清真礼拜毯在空间内展开,毯子的铺设迫于实体空间的有限,被迫延伸, 爬升,或褶皱。地毯上具有方向性的图案(门洞)因为这种限制在三维的空间内失去了原有的统一 性,并使得原本一致的方向感在空间内变得迷惑。

With a fixed camera, the video records a thunderstorm through a window. The audio has been heavily edited and mixed in post-production. The whisper of prayer heard in the video comes from the artist’s mother and is played alongside sound effects that replicate the noise of standing and sitting while she prays. The video is displayed in the gallery amongst acoustic panels so as to construct an immersive sound environment. This allows audiences to hear the details of the sound. Making use of a long take and a complete narrative structure, the video displays the religious life of the artist’s mother and its emotional resonance in Xin Yunpeng’s life.

影像使用固定镜头,透过窗户拍摄一段雷雨的景象,再 通过后期混音,将作者母亲祈祷的微弱细语混录在影像 中。在展厅中,通过大量的隔音板营造精致细腻的监听 环境,使空间内影像装置具有聆听每一个细节的可能。 长镜头与完整的叙事结构展现了影片中母亲角色的宗教 生活以及这种宗教生活在辛云鹏日常生活中的温情。
